A Chock-Full February

Jan

February is bursting with activity for Stevenson’s PTA! Thanks to our amazing parent volunteers and continued support from Cartoon Network, this month our students will get to experience:

Wellness Week – Jan. 30 – Feb. 4
Valentine’s Day Lunchtime Celebration – Feb. 14
Stop Bullying. Speak Up. Week – Feb. 21-24

I encourage you to quiz your kids this month! With almost every week filled with new experiences and activities, it’s the perfect opportunity to get informed. So ask and learn!

PTA is also very proud to announce that one of our yearly goals has been met – CPR & First-aid Training for all of our yard duty supervisors! And as an added bonus we are offering any Stevenson teacher the opportunity for re-certification. Thank you to all involved for getting this done!

Stevenson 2012 Honorary Service Awards

Jan
24

Every year, the Stevenson community rises to the occasion in a big way to provide the tools and support for our children to thrive. One way to show our gratitude is through the presentation of PTA’s Honorary Service Awards, intended to recognize those whose volunteer efforts have particularly shone through.

You may know a person who heads committees, runs big events or tackles the big projects – alternatively, there are others whose contributions are often behind the scenes, but nevertheless add up in a very big way. Please nominate the people around you whose special contributions go above and beyond on a continuing basis. They deserve a big thanks from us!

Please take a moment to nominate that special parent, teacher, staff member or local business/group. We’re going to recognize volunteers who provide outstanding service to the children at Stevenson and our community at the March 15th PTA-FFS meeting.

Nomination forms for the Honorary Service Awards are due to the school office by Feb. 17. Forms are available in the office or you can download and print one here. Please contact HSA Chairman, De Eldridge, with any questions – de@5dspectrum.com or 818-415-8487.

Made in the Shade News

January is the time when many people make resolutions to adopt healthier habits. To help students embrace that spirit of the New Year, the Stevenson PTA and FFS have combined forces to sponsor a week celebrating wellness! Beginning January 30, members of the Wellness and Made In Shade Committees are planning educational and fun events to create increased awareness about nutrition, sun safety, and physical fitness that will help facilitate healthy choices.

The week will culminate in a student Fun Run on February 3. This event first started last year and was wildly popular. Funds raided by students through collecting sponsors pledging an amount per lap will be allocated to the sun safety program at our school.

Dear Stevenson Families,

We want to wish all of you a great New Year! Families for Stevenson has many exciting things going on in 2012.

Starting in January, FFS is proud to welcome Donna Dandino as our Choir Director for the new High C’s after-school choir program. Donna is the Assistant Choir Director at Burbank High School and has an extensive career in vocal music. Stevenson students participating in the choir will receive group vocal instruction to prepare for performances at the FFS Talent Show and Stevenson Rocks!

We also want to welcome back veteran art teacher Mrs. Barbara Eisner, who will be continuing with 10-weeks of art instruction for every student at Stevenson. Looking
ahead, in March, FFS is proud to showcase our own Stevenson students in the Talent Show 2012 themed “Dream Out Loud.” Talent show participants are already working
hard practicing their performances.

Thank you again for supporting arts education here at Stevenson Elementary. We are looking forward to an amazing 2012!

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! I hope that the holidays and vacation time was special for you and your family. It is great to have time to stop the usual routines and reflect about what
is important in each of our lives.

As we welcome in the new year, we traditionally establish some new goals or resolutions. As parents, you want the best for your child. A New Year’s Resolution might be that you want to help your child be happy and successful. There are many things that you can do at home every day that will help your child be successful in school. The ideas suggested below will benefit both younger and older students:

• Talk with your child about school and everyday events. Emphasize the positive and reinforce their good choices and decisions.
• Read with your child, or encourage them to read for fun and discuss what they read. (Use who, what, where, when, why types of questions)
• Monitor your child’s television viewing, and talk with them about the programs they watch.
• Encourage exercise and good nutrition.
• Monitor homework, making sure your child has a place to work and that assignments are done.
• Reestablish a school-night bedtime.
• Communicate that education is important, and that you expect your child to do well in school. Your high expectations are vital to his/her success in school. Let them know that school is their job and you expect their best.

Please call your child’s teacher or me with questions, concerns, or how you can get involved at school. Here’s to a happy, healthy, and successful 2012!

Sincerely,
Miss Ginnetti

Happy New Year to our Stevenson community! PTA started the school year with a firm
resolution to support technology updates throughout the school and to provide safety training
for our yard duty supervisors. We made great progress this fall and I look forward to reaching
both of these goals before the end of the year. Your continued support will make this possible!

Looking ahead, PTA has some great things planned for our students, parents and staff. A few
exciting things on the horizon are:

  • Wellness Week: Jan. 30 – Feb.2
  • Valentines School Party
  • Science Fair

For 2012 I encourage you to make a personal resolution to support our school and students –
any way you can! Volunteer, Donate, Support & Attend!
