August 24th

Getting Involved with Your Child’s School – Bret Harte Auditorium
This workshop is designed to give you information on the importance of being involved in your child’s school and the affect it has on their academic success. There are many ways to become involved through PTA and other volunteer groups at school. You will learn about the parent portal available to you.

September 21st

STAR Testing: Understanding You Child’s Results and Preparing for this School Year – Jordan Auditorium
Get an overview of the California Stabndardized Testing an Reporting Program to help you understand the importance of such testing. Walk away with some simple tips to improve our child’s testing experiences.

October 12th

Tackling the Homework Dilemma – Miller Auditorium
This Parent Workshop will focus on how parents can help their students with homework. You will look at the value of homework, time for homework, tips for parents, using a daily schedule and homework survival kits. Help your child learn to be responsible and motivated to complete their homework.

November 9th

College Night – John Burroughs Library
Learn about planning for college and the requirements for various colleges and universities. You will also receive financial aid information.

December 7th

Internet Safety, and Resources on the World Wide Web – Burbank Adult School
Join us for an informative and interactive evening designed to educate parents on Internet Safety. Details of the dangers children and teens face while online will be discussed. Information on internet bullying will be part of this workshop.

November 1st

Learning to Read and Reading to Learn in Elementary School – Stevenson School Auditorium
Learn about how you can help you child to achieve academic an grade-level standards in reading. You will learn how to help your child develop age appropriate strategies for this important subject.

February 8th

Surviving the Adolescent Years – Luther Library
Join us to learn ways to enhance communication between you and your adolescent child. Learning about age appropriate behaviour will help you have realistic expectations and promote a positive connection with your child. Coping with bullying will also be discussed.

March 29th

Field Trip to the Burbank Public Libraries – Meet at neighborhood library at 1:00pm – Buena Vista, Central, Northwest
Visit your neighborhood library with an ELD coordinator to receive a tour and learn about how to utilize the library for your child’s education.

April 12th

Is Your Child on Track Academically? – Muir Cafeteria
The goal of this workshop is to give you information on where your children should be now and what will be expected of them during the next school year. This will help with academic planning and understanding GPA and report cards.

May 3rd

Awards Ceremony – Buena Vista Library
We will celebrate your success and your child’s growth and success for this past year. This will be your opportunity to give us feedback about what was helpful to you and what was not during this year’s Parent Academy. A parent survey will be given to you to fill out for ideas for next year and certificates of completion will be presented. Come celebrate with your family.
