Principal’s Log

My office has been visited by many students who have signed the Principal’s Log.  Students sign my log in my office when the teacher sends a student to be recognized for good behavior, effort, citizenship, or academic achievement. Students receive a red ribbon, certificate, and have their names published in the parent bulletin. Student Awards  

In addition to the Principal’s Log, students may earn several different types of awards during the year.  The teachers recognize students for behavior, achievement, and effort.  Student of the Month awards recognize the character building traits such as responsibility, friendship, perseverance, etc.  Student of the Month recipients earn a bumper sticker, “reward tag”, and certificate.  They have their picture taken for the “Hall of Fame” Office bulletin board and their names published in the Pirate Newsletter.  Students earn “Good Sport” coupons from any staff member for demonstrating Peacebuilder behaviors.  Yard supervisors write positive notes for students who use peaceful playground behavior by following game rules, displaying good sportsmanship, being a team player, etc.  Finally we have the Trimester Awards (November, March, and May) that are given for outstanding attendance, citizenship, and academic achievement and improvement based upon report cards.  Students receive a certificate and “reward tag” for each area.  Criteria for these awards are as follows:

Outstanding Attendance:  no more than a combination of 3 absences/tardies

Citizenship: more “Excellent” (E) than “Satisfactory”(S) and no Needs Improvement (N) under Work Habits and Social Skills

Outstanding Academic Achievement:  all 3’s and 4’s in the subject areas and no Needs Improvement (N) for effort

 

Student of the Month Themes

Students are chosen for Student of the Month on how well they demonstrate specific character building traits.  September was Friendship. 

October – Cooperation                       February – Compassion            

November – Honesty                          March – Self-Discipline                     

December – Generosity.                     April – Respect          

January – Responsibility                     May – Acceptance/Perseverance 

 

Dance Instruction Begins at Stevenson

Megan Baade began dance instruction for students.  All students will receive 30 minutes of standards based dance instruction each week for the next ten weeks.  A dance show is scheduled for Thursday, December 10.  We are fortunate to have Miss Megan as our dance instructor.  She has an extensive background in dance and movement, and owns Garri Dance Studio in Burbank. She is the daughter of 3^rd grade teacher, Mrs. Sandy Baade.  Thank you to our booster association, Families for Stevenson (FFS) and parents for continued support of arts education at Stevenson.

 

Classroom Interruptions

In an effort to cut down on classroom interruptions, we ask you to help us by making every effort to set your day’s plans with your children BEFORE sending them to school each day.  Therefore we are asking you to help us by:

1.  NOT calling the office to relay messages to your child unless it is an emergency.

2.  Informing your children before they leave for school in the morning of any after school plans that they may need to know, such as:

• Who is picking them up after school?
• Do they need to walk home?
• Who are they to go home with?
• Do they need to go to Day Care?
• What do they do if it rains?
• Do they have their homework?

These are a few suggestions that can help us eliminate classroom interruptions and keep the important instructional time uninterrupted.

 

School Safety

Please be aware that our Safe Delivery “Valet Program” begins at 8:15 and closes down at 8:28 in order to allow for our 5^th grade students to get to class.  Please remind your child to stay on the sidewalk and grass areas as they enter and exit school.  Children need to stay out of the parking lot area at all times.  Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe!
