A Message From Miss Ginnetti

Aug
14

Dear Stevenson Families,

Miss Debbie Ginnetti

Miss Debbie Ginnetti

The staff and I so excited for the start of the school year! Rooms have been cleaned, books have been placed in desks, pencils are newly sharpened, and teachers are preparing lessons for the first week of school. We are looking forward to working with you and your child.

Class lists will be posted on Friday, August 14. You might notice an increase in the number of students in grades K-3. The Board of Education in May voted to increase class size from 20 to 26 students to help offset the budget deficit. You may notice a number of combination classes. These classes are formed when there are too few or too many students to make a straight grade. Students are carefully chosen to be in these classes: they are able to work independently, have acquired grade level skills, and strong work habits.

I want to invite you to become involved at school. Your involvement at Stevenson demonstrates your commitment to your child’s education. Being a volunteer, attending school events and special activities send a powerful message to your child that you value education and expect him or her to do their best. I hope to see many of you this year.

School begins Monday, August 17, 2009. Parents may accompany their children onto the playground and meet the teachers. The gate will be opened at 8:15. Then join the PTA and FFS for welcome back tea in the lunch shelter at 8:30.

The staff joins me in saying we’re happy to have you as part of the Stevenson family. We hope this will be a successful and satisfying year for you.

Sincerely,
Miss Ginnetti

Attention Stevenson Families! Let’s Fight Flu Together!

Aug
11

PTA, Novartis Vaccines, and Flu Busters have joined together to fight the spread of influenza through a program designed to educate, motivate, and vaccinate children, families, school staff, and other members of the community—Let’s Fight Flu Together!

What?
Influenza season is fast approaching, and receiving an annual vaccination is the best defense in preventing this serious and potentially deadly disease. Our PTA is working with Flu Busters, a leading provider of on-site vaccinations, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and Novartis Vaccines to help children, their families and members of the community get vaccinated against influenza.

Why?
Many people underestimate the seriousness of this contagious illness. Families should consider receiving an annual vaccination because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommend that all children from six months to 18 years of age should be vaccinated against influenza.

Where?
Stevenson Elementary, 3333 Oak St, Burbank 91505

When?
October 10th, 9.00 am.

How Much?
For the 2009-2010 flu vaccination season, the cost of injectable vaccine for those who pre-register is $25 each, and a “walk-in” will pay $27. For pre-registered nasal spray vaccine, the cost is $30. Anyone wishing to receive the nasal spray MUST pre-register.

Each participant at your Let’s Fight Flu Together! clinic will need to complete and sign a 2009-2010 consent form. If a child is receiving the vaccination, a parent or guardian
must sign the form.
